Cavv is a free app for your iPhone. It helps you feed your guinea pig a healthy diet. This guide shows you how to set up the app and log your first meal.
Download the App
Cavv is free to download from the App Store. Search for "Cavv" in the App Store, or tap the App Store button at the bottom of this page. The app works on iPhone.
Add Your Guinea Pig
Open the app and tap the pets tab. Add a profile for each guinea pig you own. You only need to do this once.
Enter these details for each pet:
- Their name.
- Their current weight in grams.
- Their age.
Weigh your guinea pig before you start. Enter that weight in the profile. If your guinea pig is sick or recovering, weigh them once a day and record it after each weigh-in.
Log Your First Meal
Follow these steps to log a meal.
- Open the food tab in the app.
- Tap Add food.
- Choose the food you just fed your guinea pig.
- Pick a portion size.
- Tap Save.
Cavv tracks 5 key nutrients for you. These are calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin C, and sugar. After you save a meal, the app adds these nutrients to your guinea pig's daily total.
Check Portion Sizes
You do not need kitchen scales to use Cavv. The app shows a photo of each portion size, so you can match the amount by eye.
Tap the portion image in the app to see the photo. Pick the image that looks most like the amount in front of you. This works for hay, pellets, vegetables, and fruit.
Track Weight Over Time
Weight is the best way to catch health problems early. Cavv saves every weight you enter and draws a chart over time.
Weigh a healthy adult guinea pig once a week on the same day. Weigh a sick or recovering guinea pig once a day. Enter the weight in the app right after you weigh them.
If your guinea pig loses 50 g or more between weigh-ins, weigh them every day. A loss of 100 g or more means you should take them to a vet right away.
